Deep in the rainforest on the Big Island of Hawaii, a husband and wife team have been designing and crafting unique handmade candles since 1996. Double Brush was formed when Stephen and Cheryl Murakami who are both artists, hence the name Double Brush, decided to create a home business to support their art making. However, it wasn’t until Cheryl came up with the idea for sushi candles that things really started to roll. “The question I am asked most often is how did I come up with the idea to make sushi candles” said Cheryl. “I was out shopping with my mother one day and saw some hand rolled beeswax taper candles. I was attracted to the honeycomb texture of the beeswax, but frankly it looked very plain.
