The modern electrical wiring setup includes the provision for the basic electrical grounding. An earth or a ground wire which is usually green in color, runs along the hot and neutral wires of the electrical framework.
Earlier the grounding systems used to rely heavily on the main power station from where the electricity is received. Now the grounding systems are more suitably established either in the locality or within the house setup.
Before you start to build a new grounding system to protect yourself against the errant electrical charges of a particular electronic/electrical device, understand the general working of a grounding system well.
Though most of the modern electrical setups are provided with efficient grounding systems, individual grounding systems need to be installed for certain electronic devices such as high-frequency welders, radio frequency apparatus etc. Such a grounding system handles the static electrical charges and fluctuations of the devices and protect us from hazardous situations.
The list would include a copper ground rod, a hammer, anti-corrosion compound, screwdrivers, wire pliers, solid copper wire of number 8 and a rod-to-wire connector.
Move outdoors to plant the ground rod and make sure that the location is in close proximity to an already rendered grounding system. Beat the top of the rod and drive it into the ground with the help of a hammer. Keep a portion of about 6 inches above the ground in order to connect the rod to a rod-to-wire connector. Once you have planted the rod successfully, clean off it’s visible part with a cloth. Next, apply some anti-corrosion solution on it to render a conductor path to the setup. Now grab a connector from the kit and screw it well to the rod. You would require a screwdriver to carry out this particular task.
Once the connector is in place, attach a solid copper wire to it. Take the other end of the wire to the access point of the concerned electronic or electrical device and wire it to the grounding system. In addition, place a copper plate on the setup to render final finish to the system.
Keep the supervision of an expert in tact throughout the length of the project and derive useful suggestions from him whenever needed.
