What causes cold sores? In this excellent article, you will discover what causes cold sores in the majority of folks already infected with the herpes virus.

The short answer to what causes cold sores is the herpes simplex virus.

Of all those infected, about a third will never get a cold sore. The virus will stay dormant deep in the root cells of the facial nerves. The other two-thirds of us will get repeated outbreaks.

If the herpes virus decides to replicate, it will move to the surface and enter your cells there. This destructive virus then forces the cells to create new virus particles.

As the cells fill up with new virus copies, swelling of the tissue occurs. Then the cells burst open. This releases the new virus and creates your cold sore.

The herpes simplex virus is the root cause of all cold sores. But, to stop cold sores, you need to know what actually activates this virus.

Below you will discover the top three triggers responsible for herpes virus activation and replication.

1. YOUR IMMUNITY IS INADEQUATE TO FEND OFF THE HERPES VIRUS.

A vigorous immune response requires strong antibodies. Certain materials must be on hand for your body to build potent antibodies.

The most important elements for building strong antibodies are the micro-nutrients in your food and supplements.

If you get cold sores, it indicates weakness in your immunity and antibodies. Fresh, uncooked vegetables will provide the best quality of body-ready nutrients to boost your resistance.

You also would be wise to start taking vitamin supplements every day. This may be all you need to do to heal and prevent cold sore misery. But avoid worthless bargain vitamins.

If you do not buy a high quality vitamin supplement, you will not get good results. You want high vitamin B and C content. These vitamins help reduce stress.

2. TOO MUCH ARGININE, TOO LITTLE LYSINE.

Arginine and lysine are two amino acids essential to your health. They also are very much involved in cold sore outbreaks.

Arginine offers many cardiac benefits. But it also is the primary protein used to create new herpes simplex virus. Without sufficient arginine, a cold sore will not happen.

Herpes virus cannot be created with lysine. Your cells store both lysine and arginine but the more you have of one, the less room for the other.

Flooding your body tissues with lysine will help push arginine out of the cells. You can eat fish and dairy products, but lysine supplements are the easiest way for stopping your cold sore marathon.

3. YOUR pH LEVEL IS ACID.

To keep yourself in tip top health, you must keep your body on the alkaline side of the pH scale. 7 is the neutral point – above 7 is alkaline and below 7 is acid.

Your body will usually range between 6.6 and 7.35 pH. Any drop below 7 into the acid zone reduces your resistance and could activate the herpes simplex virus.

Acid pH means lower oxygen levels and weak resistance to pathogens. Contributing factors that can cause your body to be acid include soda, sugar, white flour and tobacco.

Cold sore activity is highest during the winter months because your body is more apt to become acid. Less outdoor activity, cold dry air and fewer fresh vegetables account for a more acid body.

Keeping your pH level in the alkaline range is easy. Eat calcium-rich green vegetables, preferably cabbage and asparagus. Health stores have alkaline-raising kits that work very well too.

If you want to know what causes cold sores, there is much more we could talk about if we had the time and space here.

Hopefully, however, this short article will help you in finding an answer to the question of what causes cold sores for your particular situation and give you the knowledge to defeat the cold sore in your life.
